What we collect, what we don't, and how we handle the data your garden generates.

The short version

Garden Sentry connects to your Ring cameras to recognize garden visitors and activate gentle deterrents. We try to collect as little data as possible to do that well.

In one paragraph

We store your email, your camera configuration, and a log of detection events (species, confidence, timestamp, short event clip). We don't pull down or store your full Ring footage. We don't sell anything to anyone. You can export or delete everything at any time from Settings.

What we collect

Account information

  • Email address (used to sign in, send weekly summaries, and contact you about your account)
  • Display name (optional, shown in-app only)
  • Subscription and billing status

Garden configuration

  • Which Ring cameras you've linked
  • The protected zones you draw on each camera view
  • Your response preferences (sprinkler, siren, lights, quiet hours)

Detection events

When Ring notifies us about motion on a linked camera, we receive event metadata and a short clip needed to run recognition. We store:

  • Species recognized (e.g. "deer") and the model's confidence
  • Which zone the visitor entered
  • Which response (if any) was activated
  • A thumbnail from the clip, kept for up to 30 days on the Pro plan, 7 days on Basic

How we use it

We use the data above only to run the product:

  • Recognition. The event clip and thumbnail feed our detection models so we can tell a deer from a cat.
  • Response. Your zone and response settings decide whether a sprinkler, light, or siren activates.
  • Your dashboard. Detection events populate your feed, zone map, and weekly summary.
  • Account services. Email summaries, billing, support replies.

What we never do

  • We don't pull down your full Ring footage or archive.
  • We don't sell your data, visitor records, or camera metadata to anyone.
  • We don't share event data with advertisers.
  • We don't use your detection thumbnails to train third-party models outside of Garden Sentry's own recognition system.
  • We don't enable location tracking or collect GPS.

Ring and Amazon

Garden Sentry is an independent product. We're not affiliated with, owned by, or endorsed by Ring LLC or Amazon.com, Inc. When you link Garden Sentry to Ring, Ring shares event notifications and short clips with us via their official integration API. Your full Ring account, camera footage archive, and billing relationship with Ring remain entirely with Ring. Disconnecting Garden Sentry at any time stops that data flow immediately.

Retention and deletion

Detection event records (including thumbnails) are automatically deleted after the retention window for your plan (7 days Basic, 30 days Pro). Account information is kept while your subscription is active. When you delete your account, we remove everything within 30 days except minimal records we're required to keep for tax, billing, or legal compliance.

You can delete your account and data at any time.

Your rights

You can:

  • Export all your data as a download from Settings
  • Correct any information on your account by editing it in Settings
  • Delete your account and all associated detection history
  • Disconnect Ring at any time, which immediately stops data flowing to Garden Sentry
  • Pause detection without deleting anything
